The 2013 Joint Banquet of Three Universities in Celebration of Teachers’ Day

The 2013 Joint Banquet of Three Universities was held to celebrate Teachers’ Day at 6 p.m. on the 26th of September in the stadium of Ming Chi University of Technology, the hosting university this year. Over 400 people joined the banquet, including presidents and teachers of Chang Gung University, Chang Gung University of Science and Technology, and Ming Chi University of Technology, along with a number of distinguished guests. Chairman of the Board Prof. Ding-Yi Yang presented awards to nominated outstanding teachers during the banquet. He also encouraged teachers from the three universities to collaborate and strive for a brighter future.

Prof. Thu-Hua Liu, president of the hosting university, delivered a welcome speech prior to the banquet. Then, the Chairman of the Board Prof. Ding-Yi Yang presented the awards to the nominated outstanding teachers of the three universities. Prof. Yang also wished all the teachers a happy Teachers’ Day and expressed his thankfulness for all their dedication and commitment to research and education. In his speech, he urged all staffs of the three universities to work diligently as well as to maximise the value of every dollar. He pointed out that in order to excel, we not only need good facilities and equipment, but also rely on the hard work and collaboration of both teachers and students.Chang Gung University was ranked 387th in the 2013 Shanghai Jiao Tong Academic Ranking of World Universities. It has made 6 appearances in a row in this top university chart. Closely following National Taiwan University, National Tsing Hua University, National Cheng Kung University, and National Jiao Tong University, Chang Gung University is still the only private university in Taiwan that has ever made into the top 400 chart. Our academic achievement is particularly impressive in the field of clinical medicine. In this field, Chang Gung University is listed in the world’s top 150. We are also the leading university in Taiwan in the research of clinical medicine. We attribute such an achievement to our core value “whole-person education”. It is our hope that all the three universities can become exemplary educational centers.

Aside from gourmet dishes, the hosting university also arranged dazzling performances for the audience. The Hot Dance Club of Ming Chi University of Technology kicked off the performance. Following the Hot Dance Club’s performance are the stunning dance moves of the disabled dancers and the spectacular singing performance by the Melody Choir of CGU. The highlight of the evening was the singing and dancing performances of aboriginal youths from the Aboriginal Youth Club of MCUT, the Naruwan Club of CGUST, and a special guest Mr. Hong-En Wang, who is also an aboriginal singer. Everyone had an enjoyable evening. At the end, students from Ming Chi University of Technology gave each teacher sunflower seeds as a token of gratitude on such a special day. The seed is a symbol of spreading knowledge and hope. This evening dining event was concluded in warmth and happiness.
