Professor Hao-Li Liu from the Department of Electrical Engineering received the Frederic Lizzi Award from the International Society for Therapeutic Ultrasound and was invited to give an award speech at the Society’s symposium
 

Standing out from his internationally renowned counterparts, Prof. Hao-Li Liu from the Department of Electrical Engineering was selected as the recipient of the 2013 Frederic Lizzi Award by the International Society of Therapeutic Ultrasound (ISTU). He was invited to give an award speech in the annual symposium of AIUM (American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine) / ISTU held in Las Vegas, April 2~5, 2014. His topic was “FUS BBB opening and CNS drug delivery:An overview”. This prestigious award not only recognized the contributions and achievement of Dr. Liu, but it was also a great honor to Chang Gung University.

The International Society of Therapeutic Ultrasound is the biggest international organization providing a foundation for international collaboration on issues related to therapeutic ultrasound. It has over 1,000 members from all over the world. The Society has an annual symposium for A-list scholars, mostly from Europe and US, to share their knowledge and research findings concerning the scientific and clinical aspect of therapeutic ultrasound. Only outstanding papers are presented in the symposium. The Society has two awards for individuals who have made outstanding contributions to therapeutic ultrasound: (1) The William and Francis Fry Honorary Fellowship, (2) The Frederic Lizzi Award. Every year, the Society publically invites nominations for the Frederic Lizzi Award. Members may self-nominate and submit their nominations to the Selection Committee of the Society. After a rigorous screening process, the Committee determines a winner of the Award. In judging candidates for the award, the Selection Committee considers the following criteria: (1) the candidate’s overall contribution to the International Society of Therapeutic Ultrasound, (2) the quality and achievement of research undertaken by the candidate, and (3) the candidate’s academic impact on future research. Previous award winners include Dr. Mike Bailey (University of Washington), Dr. Elisa Konofagou (Columbia University), Dr. Mickael Tanter (Institu Langevin, France), Dr. Cyril Lafon (The Institut National de la Santé et de la Recherche Médicale, France), Dr. Jean-Francois Aubry (Institut Langevin -Laboratoire Ondes et Acoustique, Paris), Dr. Constantin Coussios (University of Oxford), and Dr. Nathan McDannold (Harvard University). They are all scholars from Europe and America achieving an extraordinary level of success in the field of therapeutic ultrasound. Prof. Liu is the first scholar from Asia that was presented with this prestigious award.
