Special Exhibition of Genetics and Heredity by Three Czech Museums and Chang Gung University
Formosa Plastics Group Museum
The Special Exhibition of Genetics and Heredity has been held since September 21 in the Formosa Plastics Group Museum by three Czech museums and Chang Gung University. This is the first time for the Formosa Plastics Group Museum to host a tour exhibition after participating in the “Taiwanese Alliance of University Museums” this year. In order to enhance the highlights of the tour exhibition, the museum expands the scale of the special exhibition and cooperates with the Department of Biomedical Sciences to plan the exhibition, so that all visitors can understand the history of technology inventions from the Czech Republic. Meanwhile, exhibition patrons can understand the current status of the development of genetics and heredity at Chang Gung University. The exhibition kills two birds with one stone and benefits everyone.
Three museums in the Czech Republic participate in the tour exhibition, including the National Technical Museum Czech, Mendel Museum of Masaryk University, and the Jeseník Local History Museum. The exhibition consists of introduction to the chemist Professor Antonin Holy, who developed antiretroviral drugs used in the treatment of hepatitis B and HIV (AIDS), the Porsche – leading brand in the car industry, the inventor of the turbine - Kaplan and other scientists. On top of that, the exhibition also gives a comprehensive introduction to the ‘father of genetics’, Gregor Mendel, with whom all of us are very familiar. The most important thing is that you have to come and visit the exhibition if you want to see Mendel’s manuscript (the only limited replica in Asia). I believe that after visiting the exhibition, you will be surprised with the amazing Czech Republic.
Following the introduction to Mendel, we illustrate the genetics and heredity research milestones in the exhibition. We also introduce the heroes behind the genetics and heredity research - model creatures. The model creatures are actually fruit flies, sea urchins and other creatures that often appear in our lives. Why can they be the heroes behind the scenes? Their unique features are waiting for you to discover. In addition, the purple sea urchin specimen is also displayed in the exhibition area. I believe that there is little opportunity for you to see the appearance of a dead purple sea urchin. Visitors can also carefully examine the final shape of this beautiful creature through the magnifying glass. In addition, we also set up a fruit fly observation area in the exhibition site to test whether you are able to observe the sex and variant species of the fruit flies. This process is rather interesting. Of course, if students have a keen interest in genetics and heredity during the visit, they can learn more about the related research and laboratory introduction of Chang Gung University teachers by scanning the QR code on the exhibition board. You might be the next greatest discoverer in the field of genetics and heredity after this.
At the end of the visit, we specially design a small game with prizes and rewards. In addition to encouraging visitors to read the contents carefully, we also offer them an opportunity to earn themselves an exquisite gift. Therefore, everyone is welcome to visit the B1 special exhibition room in the museum.
