A total of 21 teachers and students from the Department of Medical Technology, the Department of Radiological Technology and the Department of Nursing of Okayama University visited Chang Gung University in March 2019.  Under the guidance of Prof. Chih-Wei Yang, dean of the College of Medicine, they visited the First Medical Science Building. The visit was jointly planned by the Department of Medical Biotechnology and Laboratory Science, the Department of Medical Imaging and Radiological Sciences, and the School of Nursing. The activities included the sharing between similar departments of the two universities, of the school environment, educational contents and the assignment of responsibilities in the medical system. On top of that, we also conducted talks, student oral presentations, and visits to the three departments and hospitals.  These activities helped both parties become more familiar with each other and develop a close rapport.

Okayama University, a national university located in Okayama City, Japan, was established in 1870 and offered tertiary education in 1949. The university has 11 undergraduate departments, including literature, education, law, economics, science, medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, engineering, agronomy and environmental engineering; and 7 graduate institutes, including education, sociology of culture, natural science, health science, environmental life science, medical dentistry and legal affairs. It is a first-class comprehensive university in Japan.

The visit was mostly arranged by Professor Ching-Ping Tseng of the International Affairs Committee of the Department of Medical Biotechnology and Laboratory Science, with additional assistance from Assistant Prof. Chun-Hsia Huang of the Department of Nursing, Associate Prof. Tsi-Chain Chao of the Department of Medical Imaging and Radiological Sciences, teachers and administrators of the Department of Medical Biotechnology and Laboratory Science, and students from other departments. In the end, the visit was completed successfully. There were many things worth sharing, including the splendid oral presentations of the students from the two universities. In addition to the professional themes such as hay fever, there were also other topics which were discussed, including women's roles in the workplace and gender diversity. The students presented and discussed in English throughout the entire session, demonstrating their impressive English proficiency. It also provided the students with the opportunity to express their thoughts and ideas. In addition, the Department of Medical Biotechnology and Laboratory Science specially arranged students to introduce in fluent Japanese to their Japanese counterparts to Taiwan's famous night market culture and local delicacies, which received unanimous praise from teachers and students of Okayama University.

During this trip, teachers and students from Okayama University paid a visit to the Linkou Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, the largest medical system in Taiwan. This visit allowed them to witness Taiwan's professional and excellent medical quality. In addition, the teachers of both sides also discussed the possibility for further cooperation between the two universities. In the future, other than waiting teachers and students from Okayama University to visit us, we will arrange a visit to Okayama University as soon as possible and sign a cooperation agreement for students to study and research there. This could allow our students to experience the teaching methods of different countries and enhance their global vision.

Hui-Li Shao, a student of the Department of Medical Biotechnology and Laboratory Science who participated in the activity, said that he was very grateful to the school for the opportunity to receive teachers and students from Okayama University. This opportunity allowed him to broaden his horizons and enhance his global vision. He hoped to build a solid foundation for professional knowledge while he’s still studying in Taiwan and has enthusiastically planned to study further in Japan after graduation. In this way, he hoped to continue to develop his professional skills and knowledge by absorbing Japan's strength and advantages. It is his hope to take every opportunity to promote exchanges and cooperation between Taiwan and Japan in the future.
