2022 Academic Exchange Speech Event
Research and Development Office
On December 9, 2022, this year’s academic exchange speech was conducted in the International Conference Hall of the Second Medical Science Building. The school invited Vice President Chih-Wei Yang to give guidance and Professor Po-Hsiang Tsui, dean of the Office of Research and Development, to preside over the event. Professor Sen-Yung Hsieh, Professor Cheng-Lung Ku, winners of the 2020 National Science and Technology Council Academic Research Award, Professor Ching-Chi Chi, Professor Min-Hsien Wu, Professor Wen-Hung Chung, winners of the 2021 National Science and Technology Council Academic Research Award, and Associate Professor Chung-Hsien Chaou, winner of the 2022 National Science and Technology Council Ta-You Wu Memorial Award gave their speeches respectively, sharing experiences on their research and award-winning topics with the school’s teachers and students.
Professor Sen-Yung Hsieh is a well-known scholar who has contributed to many significant research findings in Taiwan’s liver cancer studies. Not only did he share his impressive research results at the event, but he also motivated teachers, students, and researchers with his own research experience, encouraging them to persevere and improve on the path of academic research. Professor Cheng-Lung Ku’s field of research is human immunity. Through his humorous way of sharing and explaining, everyone at the event fully understood the fun of scientific research work! Professor Ching-Chi Chi uses empirical research to find solutions to clinical problems and promote evidence-based medical education. After sharing his own experience in academic research, he concluded his speech by saying “Give me a lever and a fulcrum, and I shall lift the whole world”, allowing teachers and students at the event to fully immerse in his dedication and passion towards academic research. Professor Min-Hsien Wu has long been engaged in the development of the application of microfluidic biochip technology in vitro biomimetic cell culture models, detection and purification of circulating tumor cells, and amplification and detection of ultra-fast nucleic acid. During the event, not only did Professor Wu explain his research topic, but he also shared his conviction that “academic research requires a certain level of madness and boldness”, and only by leaping out of the constraints of the existing framework, can we have the opportunity to innovate and achieve breakthroughs. Professor Wen-Hung Chung has devoted many years to research on drug allergies, skin allergies, and skin immune diseases. He has broadened the general public’s knowledge of severe allergies and developed new drugs. In his speech, Professor Chung thanked Chang Gung Memorial Hospital and Chang Gung University for providing plentiful resources and a good environment for researchers to wholeheartedly devote themselves to their work without any worries. Associate Professor Chung-Hsien Chaou commits himself to medical education research. He focuses on the research of teaching methods in the field of acute and severe sicknesses. Through student feedback in clinical settings, clinical preparations of medical students from pre-graduation to post-graduation, and the application of research results to front-line teaching practices, curriculums, and assessments, he has made significant contributions to the improvement of medical education. It is believed that the young and promising Associate Professor Chaou who has performed exceptionally well will continue to shine in the medical education research as well as motivate other young scholars to focus on their academic research.
The event came to a perfect end with the enthusiastic and passionate participation of all teachers and students. Through sharing the joys and sorrows on the path of academic research, the six award winners encouraged the participating teachers and students to keep passion and enthusiasm alive in academic research. If they persist and continue accumulating outstanding research findings, Chang Gung University’s reputation shall on a par with other top-tier international universities, bringing academic research results into a brand new chapter.
