Stout Camphor Tree Donation, Press Conference and Signing
Ceremony for the Memorandum of Understanding between Chang Gung University and
Tree King Bio-Technology to Facilitate University-Industry Liaison
To facilitate
university-industry liaison, Chang Gung University and Tree King
Bio-Technology held a joint press conference and signed a memorandum
of understanding on the 8th of April in the hall of the First
Medical Science Building. This move is expected to contribute to the
restoration of Taiwanese native stout camphor trees as well as to
increase their application value. Managerial personnel from both
organizations, faculties, students, print media and electronic media
journalists were invited to participate. It is hoped that the
biochemical and biomedical engineering research teams of the College
of Engineering will coordinate relevant resources and utilize their
professional knowledge and skills to maximize the medical values of
stout camphor trees. In addition, the tree planting ceremony in
Chang Gung University also symbolized Tree King Bio-Technology’s
love for the earth and care for the environment.
Distinguished

Liu, Chairperson of the Department of Chemical and Materials
Engineering Prof. Jessie Shing-jiang Lue, Chairperson of the
Department of Electrical Engineering Prof. Hao-Li Liu, Chairperson
of the Department of Mechanical Engineering Prof. Jiunn-Woei Liaw,
Director of the Graduate Institute of Medical Mechatronics Prof.
Ming-Yih Lee, Chairperson of the Department of Electronic
Engineering Prof. Kou-Chen Liu, Chairperson of the Department of
Computer Science and Information Engineering Associate Prof. Chung-Chih
Lin, Director of the Graduate Institute of Electro-Optical
Engineering Prof. Hsien-Chin Chiu, Prof. Shau-Wei Tsai, Prof. Hsiu-Po
Kuo, Associate Prof. Ruey-Chi Hsu, Associate Prof. Shiao-Wen Tsai,
and Prof. Jiunn-Jong Wu. Representatives from the Tree King
Bio-Technology included Director Mr. Zhong-Liang Tsai, Chief
Operating Officer Mr. Bo-Xian Chen, Adviser Tsai of the Division of
Tree Planting, and Manager Mr. Shang-De Chen. By the signing for the
memorandum of understanding, we hope to carry forward the philosophy
of CGU founder Mr. Yung-Ching Wang – sustainable management of the
environment, as well as to strengthen the enterprise spirit of the
Tree King Bio-Technology – energy efficiency and carbon reduction.
We would like to thank Assistant Prof. Yu-Kuo Liu of the Graduate
Institute of Biochemical and Biomedical Engineering for making this
event possible through his university-industry liaison project. We
also appreciate the Tree King Bio-Technology for its donation of 300
stout camphor trees, which are estimated to value NT$3,000,000, as
well as for bringing in its staff to plant the trees on campus.
In the
beginning of the ceremony, Vice President Prof. J. K. Chen delivered
a speech on the university’s teaching, research, campus greening,
and university-industry liaison. Next, Director Mr. Zhong-Liang Tsai
of the Tree King Bio-Technology elaborated on the donation of stout
camphor trees as well as on the prospect of subsequent
university-industry liaison. Then Dean of the College of Engineering
Prof. Chao-Sung Lai talked about the history of the tree donation as
well as the goal of liaison between Assistant Prof. Yu-Kuo Liu and
the Tree King Bio-Technology. Finally, Vice President Prof. J. K.
Chen and Director Mr. Zhong-Liang Tsai signed a memorandum of
understanding to conclude the tree donation ceremony. After the
ceremony, Vice President Prof. Chen, Secretary General Prof. Chiu,
Dean of the College of Engineering Prof. Lai, Director of the Office
of Technology Development and Industry Liaison Prof. Hsu, Assistant
Prof. Liu, and representatives from the Tree King Bio-Technology
including Director Tsai, Chief Operating Officer Mr. Chen, Adviser
Tsai and Manager Mr. Chen planted trees together. In line with the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Science and Technology’s policy of upgrading industry’s innovation through university-industry liaisons, the Graduate Institute of Biochemical and Biomedical Engineering and the Tree King Bio-Technology plan to work together to explore the medical application of Taiwanese native stout camphor trees. Every year, pruned and fallen twigs and leaves of the stout camphor trees will be collected for further analysis and research. This project not only deepens the care for environment, but it also contributes to the achievement of the goal of sustainability through utilizing recyclable natural materials.
