Chang Gung University and Japan's Yamagata University Jointly Held the 2019 International Symposium on Polymer Engineering and Science
Professor Shih-Jung Liu, Department of Mechanical Engineering
In order to promote international exchange, the College of Engineering of our university and the Faculty of Engineering of Yamagata University signed an academic cooperation MOU in 2018. To further facilitate bilateral academic exchange, to promote research in the field of polymer materials, as well as to boost the international visibility of our school, Chang Gung University collaborated with Japan’s Yamagata University to hold the 2019 International Symposium on Polymer Engineering and Science on September 4th-7th, 2019 at the Centennial Hall of the Engineering Faculty of Yamagata University.
Professor Shih-Jung Liu of the Department of Mechanical Engineering of Chang Gung University and Professor Hiroshi Lto, deputy dean of the Faculty of Engineering of Yamagata University, co-chaired the conference. Professor Iizuka, dean of the Faculty of Engineering of Yamagata University, delivered a speech at the opening ceremony of the conference. In addition, many internationally renowned scholars were invited to deliver keynote speeches, including Professor Grizzuti, editor-in-chief of Journal of Polymer Engineering, Professor Kanaya, Professor Kikutani of Tokyo Institute of Technology, and Professor Turng of University of Wisconsin-Madison, etc.
In view of the fact that the use of polymer materials is increasing year by year and occupies an irreplaceably important position in the world, it is necessary to conduct academic exchange and carry out in-depth dialogues in related fields. The conference included a total of 16 themes: "processing and manufacturing", "rubber and elastomers", "polymerization and synthesis", "polymer blends and alloys", "polymer composites", "fiber, membrane and film", "mixing and compounding", "modeling and simulation", "monitoring and characterization", "rheology and rheometry", "biomedical materials", "optical/electrical applications", "nanotechnologies and nanomaterials", "benign polymer", "food engineering and science" and "other techniques and applications". More than 70 papers from 9 countries (regions) were received, including the United States, Italy, China, Japan, South Korea and Taiwan. In the conference, many new research results on polymer materials were presented, which inspired the participants’ enthusiastic interest. The conference provided a platform for participants to brainstorm and discuss innovative ideas. This, hopefully, would facilitate new research in the future.
With Chang Gung University’s strong support and assistance, the conference was completed successfully. In addition to promoting academic exchange and research experience sharing among international experts and scholars, Chang Gung University also demonstrated its strength in polymer material research and application. This conference gave international experts an opportunity to know more about the research result presented by the university in this field. In conclusion, this conference facilitated bilateral cooperation between Chang Gung University and Yamagata University and promoted academic exchange.
