Office of International Affairs

Okayama University is one of the largest national universities and also one of the oldest universities in Japan. Chang Gung University and Okayama University have signed an academic exchange memorandum to establish a summer internship exchange program and a semester exchange program. Every summer vacation, a number of students from the College of Engineering visit the laboratories of the College of Engineering of Okayama University for two months’ research exchange. Every September, teachers and students from the College of Engineering of Okayama University also visit our school for academic exchange workshops. We have had a good relationship for many years.

However, due to the impact of the global COVID-19 pandemic, there was no on-site mutual visit this year. Therefore, the College of Engineering of our university and the College of Engineering of Okayama University organized an online academic exchange symposium on the 2nd of March, 2021 to discuss culture exchange and academic research sharing between Taiwan and Japan. The event first invited Lecturer Ms. Landi Li from the Meko Education Group in Japan to give a lively and interesting Japanese language class. Our students learned from her about the evolution of Japanese language, related history, and culture. Next, Prof. Yao-Ren Zhang, Prof. Xiao-Long Zhan, Prof. Yi-Ping Zhao, and Prof. Jia-Liang Sun of the College of Engineering were invited to introduce their research results, while the College of Engineering of Okayama University invited Prof. Atsuo Murata, Prof. Toshihiko Kiwa, Prof. Kenichi Morooka and Prof. Yuta Nishina to share their research in smart surgery navigation, biomedical sensing electronic circuits, brain magnetic resonance imaging analysis, nanomaterial analysis and application, visual imaging, chemical microscopy, and self-cruising technology.

During the three-hour symposium, participants enthusiastically gave opinions and engaged in discussions. Both parties look forward to meeting again and having further exchanges in their respective universities in person after the global pandemic slows down.
