On the evening of the 21st of October 2021, the university held the annual "Hero Stairway climbing competition". Approximately 300 faculty and staff members and students participated in this grand event. President Ming-Je Tang led the supervisors to cheer for the participants, and the atmosphere was lively. The participants were eager to try and climbed at their fastest speed up the 14-storey-high Hero Stairway, which has 252 steps in total.  They exhibited the vitality of pushing their own physical limits.

This year's event was originally scheduled to take place in April. Due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, it was postponed to October. This activity not only provided an opportunity for enjoyment, but it also allowed teachers and students to experience the founder's spirit of working hard in the process of starting the school. President Ming-Je Tang said that it was not easy to start the school. He hoped that in addition to continuing playing a leading role in the field of medical research, the university also needed to move forward in various aspects, such as internationalization, interdisciplinary learning, and flexible coursework in the future. The university’s success is like today's step climbing competition. Participants must stride forward and climb high to compete for the championship. We look forward to seeing the university reach the peak of international reputation.

Prof. Zheng-Shen Hu, dean of student affairs, pointed out that the Hero Stairway is a shortcut created to connect the student dormitories Ju De Building and Ming De Building to the teaching area, the student food court, and the student activity center. The Hero Stairway is a common memory shared by all Chang Gung University students. It is a long stairway. When climbing up the stairs, students always involuntarily raise their heads and look up, looking at the invisible destination in the distance, and then climb up with an immense effort. Although it can be a bit difficult at first and everyone pants, this exercise helps students become stronger and healthier.

According to the wishes of the participants, this year's Hero Stairway climbing competition was divided into a leisure group and a competition group. The competition atmosphere of the two groups was completely different. The leisure group crawled to the finish line with laughter and panting; the participants of the competition group were gearing up to prepare for warm-up and sprint. In fact, the competition group is popularly participated among Chang Gung University students each year. Since the first competition was held in 2001, an amazing record of 36.05 seconds has been set and stayed on the stairway of honor. So far, no one has broken this record. During the event, for the safety and fair timing of the participants, only 2 to 4 people were allowed to climb up the stairway at a time. Starting at 17:00, the event lasted for about 2 hours in the evening. In the end, Han-De Wang, a second-year medical student, won the first place in this year's Hero Stairway climbing competition with a record of 38 seconds. After the competition, Han-De Wang said that he’d continue to participate next year and look forward to achieving a better result.
