Welcome Luncheon for New International Students for the First Semester of the 111th Academic Year

Office of International Affairs

The welcome luncheon for new international students for the 111th academic year was organized by the Office of International Affairs at noon on Thursday, November 10. The welcome luncheon invited the new international students who enrolled this semester and also the existing international students. By having the seniors guide the new students to know each other, the new students can establish a network to adapt to the new environment and gain access to educational and research resources for learning. In addition to international students, the teachers of the university also took this opportunity to interact with international students. The event was hosted by the dean of International Affairs. The event also invited the president, the vice deans of International Affairs of the School of Medicine, the School of Engineering, the School of Management, and the heads of various departments to participate.

The event started with a speech delivered by the president. He expressed his care about the international students' adaptation to Taiwan's dormitory and food, and asked whether they were able to adapt themselves to the learning environment in Chang Gung University. The president then shared his experience during his overseas studies with vivid and humorous examples. The international students of Chang Gung University are mostly master's and doctoral students, so at the end of his speech, the president shared a lot of information about employment opportunities in Taiwan after graduation that international students may be interested in. At the end of his speech, he sincerely welcomed the new international students.

Teachers and students mingled very well during the luncheon. Besides that, the students also exchanged contact details with each other, so they could stay connected in the future. They talked not only in English and Chinese, but also in other languages such as Hindi, Vietnamese, and Turkish, reflecting the cultural diversity of Chang Gung University.

After the COVID-19 pandemic in the recent years, the Office of International Affairs has finally been able to hold a welcome luncheon for new international students again. Teachers and students cherished this exchange activity. Despite different cultural backgrounds, everyone shared big smiles and enthusiasm on the faces. The Office of International Affairs was delighted to be finally able to organise this meaningful activity for our international students. We are looking forward to future exchange activities to continue promoting internationalization on campus.
